Magdi Mohamed Eltayeb Zumrawi

Magdi Mohamed Eltayeb Zumrawi, born in Omdurman, Sudan, on 19 May 1963, obtained B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering and an M.Sc. in Road Technology from the University of Khartoum in 1987 and 1991, respectively. He achieved a PhD in Highway and Railway Engineering at Chang'an University, Xi'an, China, in September 2000. Currently, he is a professor of highway and geotechnical engineering. He holds the position of Head of the Civil Engineering Department (2014 – 2017) and Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Khartoum (2019 – 2021). 

He is a geotechnical expert working with local and international consultant firms. He researches and teaches Highway and Transportation Engineering, Soil Mechanics, and Foundation Engineering at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has published 70 articles in local and international journals and attended national and international conferences. He has also published five books: A Textbook of Foundation Engineering (2024, 1st edition), Fundamentals of Highway Engineering (2022, 2nd edition), Principles of Transportation and Traffic Engineering (2022), Highway Geometric Design (2020), and Highway Engineering (2020). He is a member of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMGE), and a fellow of the Sudan Engineering Society, Road and Bridge Specifications Committee of Sudanese Standards & Metrology Organization (SSMO). He has been a consultant of the Sudan Engineering Council since 2015.
