Electrical Systems Design - 3/E

Electrical industry world wide is undergoing rapid and widespread changes. These changes have been largely driven by market oriented restructuring policies of the respective countries and increasing global environmental concerns leading to dominant use of renewable sources of energy.

This third edition of the well-accepted book continues in its tradition of giving a comprehensive treatment of electrical system design. Keeping in view the current advances and environmental consciousness, it also covers solar PV installation and emergency/standby generation installation. It covers on one hand the guiding principles of electrical system design, lighting design, designing for household electricity installation, industrial electrical system installation, exterior lighting, cable sizing, earthing and so on. On the other hand it also discusses the challenges that an electrical system designer faces to improve power quality, power factor, and energy efficiency.

The progressive features like de-licensing of power generation, open access in power transmission, decentralized management of distribution, power trading, etc., envisaged in the new Act have necessitated the electrical system designers to design electrical systems which are more energy efficient, environment friendly, reliable and with reduced greenhouse gas emission.

The book addresses these problems in the light of the Electricity Act 2003 and Energy Conservation Act 2001 with a focus on the provisions of the National Electrical code (NEC-2011) and will try to provide the readers a better insight into the subject and thereby motivate the future electrical engineers to be more socially committed and environmentally concerned citizens.

With its coverage and approach, the book will be useful to the engineering students as well as practising engineers.
