Toxicity and Bioremediation of Selected Xenobiotic Compounds: A Monograph

This book evaluates and assesses the toxicity, mode of action of xenobiotic compounds like 2,4-D ethyl ester (herbicide), pencycuron (fungicide), Anthracene (ANT) and Pyrene (PYR) (PAHs) on selected species of microorganism: Cyanobacteria—Nostoc muscorum Agardh, Anabaena—fertilissima Rao, and Synechocystis sp.; Bacteria—Bacillus benzoevorans and Pseudomonas indoxyladons with Synechocystis sp.
and consortium separately and its biotransformation into nontoxic forms.
The book broadly deals with:
  • Mode of action of xenobiotics by measuring their toxicity, impact on growth, pigments, biochemical, enzymatic and morphological variations;
  • Further to understand their toxicity and molecular mechanism, functional group variations by FTIR, change in expression of protein profile by SDS PAGE and genomic DNA profiling by Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and molecular characterization by 16S rDNA amplification in response to various doses; and
  • Their biotransformants and reduction of applied xenobiotics compounds during bioremediation process by selected species of cyanobacteria, bacteria and consortium in vitro and ex situ (microcosm).
1. Introduction to Xenobiotic compounds, Types of Bioremediation and Biodegradation, pesticides and its remediation, PAHs toxicity and remediation, bacteria and cyanobacteria in bioremediation.
2. Practical organization and design to approach toxicological effects of selected Pesticides and model PAHs and Bioremediation by Cyanobacteria and Bacterial defined artificial consortia in vitro studies.
3. Toxicological Effects of Herbicide-2,4-D ethyl ester and Bioremediation by three Cyanobacterial species in vitro.
4. Toxicological Effects of Fungicide – Pencycuron and Bioremediation by three Cyanobacterial species in vitro. Toxicological effects of two model PAHs-Anthracene (ANT) and Pyrene (PYR) and Bioremediation by three Cyanobacteria species- in vitro.
5. Toxicological effects of model PAHs and Bioremediation by Cyanobacterial and Bacterial define artificial consortia in vitro.
6. Effect of Environmental ingredients on Bioremediation of PAHs by Cyanobacterial and Bacterial consortia- Ex situ.
  • Bioremediation and biodegradation of Xenobiotic compounds—pesticides and PAH's toxicity by Cyanobacteria and bacterial characters.
  • Systematic practical design and organization to approach toxicological and bioremediation by Cyanobacteria and bacterial defined artificial consortia.
  • Toxicological effects of selected Herbicide—2,4-D ethyl ester, Fungicide—Pencycuron, two model PAHs-Anthracene (ANT), and Pyrene (PYR) on growth, pigments, biochemical, enzymatic, functional groups, molecular and morphological variations.
  • Molecular fate, biochemical response and biotransformants during bioremediation by three cyanobacterial species and bacterial define artificial consortia in vitro.
  • Role of hydro-geochemical environmental ingredients on bioremediation (bioaugmentation and biostimulation) of PAHs by Bacterial consortia ex situ.
