Shinjiro Ogita

Shinjiro Ogita has over 20 years of experience in plant biotechnology. He began his research career in 1992 as a postgraduate student at the United Graduate School of Agriculture, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT), Japan, and earned his Ph.D. in agriculture in 1997, specializing in resource and environmental sciences. An expert in cell and tissue culture and transformation technologies for higher plants, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute, where he developed efficient somatic embryogenesis for conifers. He later worked at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) on genetically modifying coffee plants to produce decaffeinated varieties. His academic career began at Toyama Prefectural University (TPU), where he served from 2003 to 2015, before moving to the Prefectural University of Hiroshima (PUH), where he currently works as a Full Professor and the Dean of the Faculty of Bioresource Sciences Since April 2020, he has focused on higher education and research in advanced agricultural and biotechnological fields.
